WFD 2008

The summer of 2008 watched as MECA sponsored the World’s Fastest Drummer contest for the second straight year. To allow for more winners than in 2007 and to encourage more participants MECA held two versions of the contest; Single Strokes and Freestyle Strokes. Participants were first separated by gender and then by age. The age groups for the 2007 contest were 10 and under, 11-16, and 17 and older.

Preliminary rounds of the contest started in late June at the Arts in Bartlett festival. July continued the contest with a preliminary round being held at MECA’s Huntley store location on the 4th of July.  Despite being rained out at the Kane County Fair, July saw lots of action and allowed the battle of the hands to stay hot heading into August. Bartlett’s National Night Out, MECA’s South Elgin store location, South Elgin River Fest, and the Lake in the Hills Sun Set Festival all played host to the final 4 preliminary rounds of the contest during the month of August. The final round was also held at the Lake in the Hills Sun Set Festival on August 31.  Though a hot and humid afternoon, winners from all previous contests showed up to see who in fact was the World’s Fastest Drummer.
